Why is it Embarrassing to Try?

I’ve been dreading writing this, but here it finally is. I’ll ask a question to segue into the topic: If someone decides to follow their dreams, why not? Too often society condemns people who are following their dreams. Complete disapproval discourages so many people from posting that TikTok, going up and reciting that poem they wrote, wearing that outfit, or doing anything that might be perceived slightly as out of the norm. This brings me back to the "different is different" point I made in a couple articles past.

People being bothered when they see something different or "weird" doesn’t surprise. Most people have given up on their own dreams which can ruffle feathers when others choose to pursue them. The reason it disturbs those who have given up on their own dreams is because it does not validate their own decision. What I have found is that when people choose not to chase down their own dreams, they make that decision for two reasons. They do it because it’s too hard and persistence is challenging or they’re not bold enough to face criticism from others.

I think criticism is a necessity when you want to improve in life, but that criticism needs to come from people who want the best for you. It’s a perfectly healthy practice to have people in your life who are qualified to provide constructive criticism. Those people can provide helpful insight to make those dreams become reality, even if it is hard to listen to at times.
