Traveling is a Gift

Over the past couple of months, I have spent many of my days out of my hometown. For some reason I get nostalgic every time I visit a different part of the country. This remains a mystery to me due to the fact I have never visited many of these places before. Nostalgia may not be the word. Emotional. Or a mix of nostalgia and emotion. What’s the word for that? Is there a word for that?

I’ve been everywhere this past summer. Some of these places include Miami and Boston, both fantastically interesting places in their own respects. Of course, I can’t forget the smaller towns in Texas I visited like Allen and Mellisa.

I’ve been fortunate enough to travel across the country. The more I grow in age the more my appreciation for traveling grows.

Traveling is a beautiful experience. I find when I travel my mind is cleared. Cleared of the day-to-day fog that befalls me. I can look at my life from a different angle.

Yes. I live a magnificent life in Houston. But could I live that magnificent life somewhere else? Could I live it in a city like Boston or Miami? Or maybe even Allen or Mellisa? When one moves to a different city, one must adapt to a newer way of life. With this adaptation comes lesson learning. These lessons range from emotional development to everyday tasks. Staying a week anywhere in my experience is the absolute bare minimum any visitor can stay while vacationing. When you are forced to adapt to a change in lifestyle or simply a different culture one looks at their own life with a new set of eyes. Experiences like traveling practically force you to morph into a different kind of person. Or at least a person with more knowledge about life.

This might not be so great, but as I travel and gain knowledge about the ways others live, I let it consume my thinking and allow it to change who I am. After a trip, sure I am tired, but I find I am most emotionally and intellectually charged.

Depending on where one visits it can be a motivator. While I was in Boston, I took a day trip to the classic Island of Martha’s Vineyard. I am writing that sentence while I am wearing my rustic Oaks Bluff sweatshirt. Anyways to see the way others live their life on Martha’s Vinyard, more specifically Edgartown was somewhat of a wakeup call. I have always been a stubborn and determined person willing to sacrifice for what I desire most in life. This visit brought my motivation and determination to the next level. Some find great success and intelligence intimidating and overwhelming. I find it profoundly inspiring and rewarding. Likewise in Miami, I was inspired by the culture and the immense wealth seen throughout the bustling city. Observing the colossal skyscrapers and penthouses. The yachts in the marinas. It motivated me.

What a blessing it is to have my whole life ahead of me and be so inspired.
